Now standing for over 90 years, the Yoshino Cherry Trees in the Quad area of campus captivate visitors and students each spring. Considered a symbol of the fleeting beauty of life, cherry blossoms are known as Sakura in Japan. In an effort to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Japan and the State of Washington, 1,000 cherry trees were donated by Japan in 1976. Cherry Blossoms, University of Washington.
